Insurance
Repairs

We deal directly with your insurer and handle the paperwork. You just drop your car off and pick it up fixed. Northern Beaches' most trusted smash repairer since 1983.

We take the stress out of it.

Insurance claims can feel overwhelming, especially right after an accident. Most people don't know where to start, and that's exactly what we help with.

We've managed thousands of insurance claims across all major Australian insurers. We know the process, we know what to say, and we sort it with minimal involvement from you.

As a Youi preferred repairer, we work directly with their assessors. For other insurers, we liaise on your behalf and keep the process moving.

You choose your repairer.

Under Australian consumer law, your insurer cannot force you to use their repairer. When you call your insurer, say:

"My preferred repairer is Smash Repair Workshop in North Narrabeen."

What to do after an accident

Step by step, from the scene to picking up your repaired car.

1

Make sure everyone is safe

Move vehicles off the road if possible. Exchange details with the other driver (name, licence number, registration, insurer). Call 000 if anyone is injured.

2

Document the damage

Take photos of all vehicles, their position, and any damage. More photos is always better. Your insurer will ask for them.

3

Call the workshop before you call your insurer

We can advise you on the process and make sure you know your rights before you're on the phone with your insurance company. No obligation.

4

Lodge your claim and nominate us as your repairer

When you lodge the claim, tell your insurer: "My preferred repairer is Smash Repair Workshop, North Narrabeen." They will contact us directly.

5

Drop your car off. We do the rest.

We'll assess the damage, liaise with your insurer, complete the repairs, and call you when your car is ready. Factory finish, every time.

Common questions

Can my insurer force me to use their repairer?
No. Under Australian consumer law, you have the right to choose your own repairer. Your insurer may recommend their network repairers, but you are not obligated to use them. Tell your insurer which repairer you want and they must work with that repairer on your claim.
Will going through insurance affect my no-claims bonus?
It depends on your policy and whether the accident was at fault or not at fault. For not-at-fault accidents where the other driver's details are known, many policies won't affect your no-claims bonus. We recommend checking with your insurer before lodging. Call us first and we can talk it through.
How long will the repair take?
It depends on the extent of the damage and parts availability. Minor panel repairs and resprays can take 2–4 days. Larger collision repairs typically take 5–10 business days. We'll give you an accurate estimate when we assess the vehicle, and we'll keep you updated throughout.
Do I need to pay an excess?
If your claim is at fault, you'll pay your excess directly to us when you collect your car. If you're not at fault, you may not need to pay an excess at all. Or you may be able to recover it from the at-fault party's insurer. We can advise based on your situation.
What if my insurer says I must use their repairer?
Push back politely but firmly. Tell them you're exercising your right to choose your own repairer under Australian consumer law. If they continue to insist, ask to speak to a supervisor. You can also call us. We're experienced in handling these conversations and can help you navigate it.
